Gov. Tate Reeves has provided an update on the severe weather that struck Mississippi Sunday night and Monday.
The Mississippi Emergency Management (MEMA) has found the following through assessments in Jasper County:
- One fatality (George Jean Hayes of Louin)
- 25 injuries
- 18 hospitalizations
- 72 homes damaged

Reeves also noted that MEMA is continuing to assess damage across the state, especially in Moss Point, where a tornado was confirmed Monday afternoon.
According to sources, over 100 structures in Moss Point were either damaged or destroyed. Moss Point High School was also struck, with the school’s football stadium, gym, and central office taking on damage.
Additionally, eight people were trapped inside M&M Bank on Main Street for a short period of time but were quickly rescued by first responders. No injuries have been reported by the bank.
