A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 11 this morning for 30 counties in Mississippi.
That includes Adams, Claiborne, Clarke, Copiah, Covington, Forrest, Franklin, Hinds, Issaquena, Jasper, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Kemper, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Leake, Lincoln, Madison, Marion, Neshoba, Newton, Rankin, Scott, Sharkey, Simpson, Smith, Warren, and Yazoo counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, significant severe storms are likely through tonight. Multiple rounds of storms can be expected, including this morning and again late this afternoon through late tonight. Damaging wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour, and hail to the size of tennis balls are possible. Tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
Multiple rounds of thunderstorms will lead to areas of flash flooding through tonight. Localized rainfall amounts of 3″ to 5″ are possible. A flood watch is in effect for parts of Central Mississippi.
