JACKSON, Miss. – With the Republican Primary runoff set for Tuesday, U.S. Senator John McCain made a campaign appearance in Jackson Monday morning to help rally support for fellow Senator Thad Cochran.
“We cannot afford to have someone brand new to learn on the job,” said McCain, R-Arizona. This is the person who can lead this nation in these most difficult and challenging times with a president who does not understand what national security is all about.”
McCain praised Cochran’s military experience and asked Mississippi veterans to vote for Cochran Tuesday. “We need to have a man who is an advocate, who is a veteran, who served with honor in the United States’ Army as Thad Cochran has.”
Governor Phil Bryan, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, Congressman Greg Harper, U.S. Senator Roger Wicker and State Auditor Stacie Pickering were also at Monday’s rally and spoke in support of Cochran.
Challenger Chris McDaniel also made campaign stops in Meridian and Flowood Monday. Polls open Tuesday at 7 a.m. The winner faces Democratic Candidate Travis Childers and Reform Party Candidate Shawn O’Hara in the November General Election.
