RANKIN COUNTY- The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department has teamed up with Krav Maga Jackson to host an Empowerment Seminar to help women protect themselves against sexual assault. April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and the seminar will give women a set of skills to use in the event that they are caught in a dangerous situation. It all starts with training women to use their voice, mind and body to prevent sexual assault.
In the seminar women will learn practical self-defense skills, like how to use decisive verbal cues, assess environmental risks, avoid dangerous situations, and fight off attackers.
“We cannot ignore the scary reality that there are bad people out there who threaten and do bad things. Rather, we equip women with the tools and training that help them develop the confidence, knowledge, and power to protect their bodies and take control over their own safety,” said Kelly Campbell, KMW – certified instructor.
Nearly 7 out of 10 victims know their assailants according to Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network. and 1 in 5 women in the U.S. have experience an attempted rape or have been raped.
The seminar is free to female residents of Rankin, 16 or older. Space is limited so you are asked to reserve a spot. It will be held on April 29, 2017 at 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. It will take place at the Rankin County Safe Room, 651 Marquette Rd, Brandon MS 39042.
