A death investigation is underway after human remains were spotted in Jones County.
Sheriff Joe Berlin confirms that the remains were found on Wednesday along Tom Windham Road near the Tallahala Creek. No further details have been given at this time.
This is the second time in June that a dead body was found in Jones County. Earlier this month, 32-year-old Samantha Elisabeth McCowan was found in the trunk of a car at Louis Auto Sales on Highway 184 on Monday. A few days before her body was discovered, McCowan had crashed her car into a power pole and was spotted walking away from the scene following the collision before going missing.
While law enforcement could not explain how the victim’s body ended up in the back end of a vehicle, an autopsy conducted by the state’s forensic crime lab found no signs of foul play involved in McCowan’s death. Surveillance footage viewed by police corroborated the lab’s findings.
