The search for two Mississippi inmates has ended with one back in custody and the other being found dead.
On Monday morning, officials at the Grenada County Jail conducted a head count and found 28-year-old Jonathan Miller and 59-year-old Clyde Slaughter to be missing. The two inmates had escaped Sunday night and allegedly stole a work truck belonging to the city of Grenada, which was recovered soon thereafter.
After a day-long search, both Miller and Slaughter were located in a wooded area in Montgomery County Tuesday around noon. While Miller was taken into custody, Slaughter, who was serving a life sentence for felony possession of a firearm and threatening a law enforcement officer, was found dead.
The cause of death has not yet been determined.
