Southern Miss head baseball coach Scott Berry picked up his 500th career win with the Golden Eagles Thursday night as his team took down Old Dominion 4-2 in Norfolk, Va.
The Golden Eagles were led on the mound by ace Tanner Hall, who pitched 7.2 innings of one-run ball while striking out seven. From the plate, Slade Wilks and Danny Lynch each drove in a pair of runs to help Southern Miss to its third-straight victory.
Leading up to Thursday’s game, Berry spoke with reporters about reaching No. 500.
“I don’t ever keep track of that stuff,” Berry said. “I just show up, watch our guys play and enjoy watching them play good baseball. It’s part of it. There are a lot of people who play into it… It’s not anything somebody does by themselves. It’s shared by a whole lot of people.”
Berry, who is in his 14th season in Hattiesburg, has won 40 or more games in each of the last six seasons – not including the canceled 2020 season – which is the longest string of any Division I program. He broke Corky Palmer’s record for most wins in 2022.
The Golden Eagles (18-10, 6-4 Sun Belt) will be back in action against the Monarchs (22-7, 7-3 Sun Belt) Saturday at 9 a.m. CT for game one of a doubleheader.
