JACKSON, MISS– What starts as a conversation online with a long-lost loved one could end as a scam.
That’s what’s happening on Facebook. People with disabilities are being targeted. The con says they’re a cousin or distant relative, conversation starts up to build trust, and then private information is exchanged.
The latest shot was taken at a man in Magee. He believed the person reaching out to him was his cousin, but after he had already answered a bunch of questions, suspicions rose, reports WJTV.
When messaging someone online, be sure to not give out any personal information or account information.
News Mississippi will continue to follow up on this scam.
