The COVID-19 outbreak has put a hold on the world of sports, but with an eye on a return to normalcy, the PGA has announced an adjusted schedule for the 2020-21 season.
In the revised schedule, the dates for the 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship remain unchanged. In its second year with a stand-alone date, the event, held at the Country Club of Jackson, will begin the week of September 28th and run through October 4th.
The 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship will be the 5th event on the PGA’s fall schedule.
Despite the release of the schedule, nothing is set in stone as the situation surrounding the global pandemic continues to change.
“The health and safety of all associated with the PGA TOUR and our global community continues to be our No. 1 priority, and our hope is to play a role – responsibly – in the world’s return to enjoying the things we love,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan. “Today’s announcement is another positive step for our fans and players as we look toward the future, but as we’ve stressed on several occasions, we will resume competition only when – working closely with our tournaments, partners and communities – it is considered safe to do so under the guidance of the leading public health authorities.”
Sebastián Muñoz took home the trophy following the 2019 tournament, beating out a field headlined by former major winners Zach Johnson, Jason Dufner and Lucas Glover.
The tournament has been played in Mississippi since 1968, and since 1994, when Century Club Charities became the host organization, it has raised $14.75 million dollars for Mississippi charities.
In 2019, the Sanderson Farms Championship won the “Best Charity Integration” award by the PGA Tour. The award recognizes the PGA Tour event that incorporates the tournament’s charity and theme into all facets of the event. The main benefactor is ‘Friends of Children’s Hospital‘ and the young patients at Batson Children’s Hospital, part of Children’s of Mississippi.
