Saltillo High School is mourning the death of one of their students.
The high school announced in a press release that Janiya Agnew passed away over the weekend. A cause of death was not included.
“By now, many have learned of the passing of one of our students this weekend, Janiya Agnew. She was more than just a student- she was a classmate, teammate, and a friend,” school officials said. “Many of our students have been affected by this loss as well as other losses that this community has experienced in recent months, weeks, and days.”
It’s the second time this month a Mississippi school has had to face the death of a student after Ocean Springs middle schooler Aubreigh Paige Wyatt died from suicide on September 4.
Counselors are available at both Saltillo High School and Ocean Springs Middle School for any students or staff impacted.
