Following the resignation of the Honorable Jim M. Greenlee from the Mississippi Court of Appeals, District 1, Governor Tate Reeves has announced the judge that will fill his seat in Position 1 of the district.
John Weddle of Saltillo was announced as the appointee by Reeves on Wednesday. A practicing attorney since 1995, Weddle has also served as the district attorney for the First Circuit Court Judicial District since 2015 and on the Mississippi Corrections and Criminal Justice Task Force.
“I’m proud to appoint John as a judge on the Mississippi Court of Appeals,” Reeves said. “His years of legal experience and public service make him an excellent addition to the court. I look forward to seeing the good things John will accomplish on behalf of Mississippians.”
Throughout his legal career, Weddle has served in an array of top positions at the local level as Public Defender for Lee County, Municipal Court Judge for Tupelo, and as an assistant district attorney for the First Circuit Court Judicial District. The University of Mississippi School of Law graduate has also worked in leadership positions alongside his practice, including as the Mississippi Prosecutor’s Association President and Treasurer.
Weddle’s shortened term on the Mississippi Court of Appeals begins on October 14, 2024. Reeves plans to call a special election for the remainder of the eight-year term on November 3, 2026.
