A Ripley man is facing eight counts of attempted murder among other charges for a series of incidents in Tippah County.
First reported by WTVA, 41-year-old Roy Richardson was involved in a car crash on Old Highway 15 on Wednesday, September 6. He is accused of threatening a volunteer firefighter and the first responder’s wife at gunpoint while they were trying to help him after the wreck.
Richardson then stole the firefighter’s vehicle and began shooting at two vehicles that were chasing after him.
The subject, who was allegedly driving under the influence, crashed a second time on County Road 701 and reportedly fired shots at the other vehicle involved in the accident.
Ripley police officers and Tippah County deputies took Richardson into custody at the scene of the second wreck. He is accused of assaulting an officer while being detained.
No serious injuries were reported. Richardson had no prior affiliation with those involved in the string of incidents.
In addition to the attempted murder charges, the 41-year-old faces possession of a controlled substance, DUI, assault on an officer, and carjacking charges.
Richardson was booked into the Tippah County jail. He was denied bond.
