A restoration project at Broadwater Marina in Biloxi has commenced, according to the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office.
The multi-million project is aimed at revitalizing the state-owned, 30-acre area south of Highway 90. Made possible through a combination of funds from the RESTORE Act, GOMESA, and Tidelands resources, the project is intended to ensure the long-term viability of the marina while opening the door for future economic development.
“The Broadwater Marina Restoration Project exemplifies Mississippi’s commitment to environmental stewardship, public safety, and economic development,” Secretary Michael Watson said. “With the support of federal and state funding, this initiative will restore a vital community resource while preparing it for safe and sustainable future use.”
The project will include:
- Repairing infrastructure severely damaged by storms, including Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Hurricane Zeta in 2020.
- Enhancing water quality systems and stormwater management.
- Stabilizing the property’s outer structures, aimed at improving public safety and supporting recreational activities.
- Repairing the failing perimeter and marina bulkheads while adding safeguards to the area in advance of future storms.
- On-site earthwork and breakwater repairs to address damage caused by wave action and erosion.
The estimated timeline for completion of the restoration project at Broadwater Marina is 15 months. The marina will be closed throughout construction.
