SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. — State Board of Education has asked for governor’s approval to take over Scott County schools. The school was found in violation of several state and federal standards after an audit back in November.
Among all the allegations against the school, one stood out in particular. The first week of December 2013 a Scott County resident mailed a letter to the school board. It was returned to the sender with feces smeared on it.
The Mississippi Department of Education found that the Scott County Sheriff’s department started an investigation into the matter, but an internal workplace investigation never happened. Also, two staff members were investigated and Mirandized.
Currently the tainted letter is at the state crime lab along with a copy machine from the school.
