WASHINGTON, D.C.–Mississippi’s role in national decision making may have gotten another boost Thursday. Sen. Roger Wicker (R), junior senator from Mississippi, was elected chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
The Chairman of the NRSC is the sixth-highest ranking leadership position in the Republican Party conference of the United States Senate.
“I am thankful for the confidence and the support of my colleagues. I intend to roll up my sleeves immediately to ensure that we have the resources available to preserve our Republican majority. This Senate Republican leadership team is ready to go to bat for the American people, and I am proud to be a part of it,” said Wicker.
“As a member of the Republican leadership, Senator Wicker has a great opportunity to extend thoughtful Republican governance of the United State Senate. I was happy to support his nomination and proud to have a fellow Mississippian in this important role. Roger’s personal characteristics and political experiences will serve us well, and I look forward to seeing him excel,” said Sen. Thad Cochran (R), Mississippi’s senior senator.
