OXFORD, Miss.–After winning the Egg Bowl to cap off one of the most exciting seasons in recent Ole Miss football history, it looks like Coach Hugh Freeze may stay put for at least another year. What got him to do it? A reported $1 million raise, reports the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal.
There were reports over the weekend that the Univ. of Florida offered Freeze a possible $4.3 million contract to lure him away from Oxford. There were also reports that Ole Miss was looking to try and match that, or at least come close enough to keep Freeze from packing up and taking off.
While nothing is on paper yet, the Journal reports that Freeze may sign a new contract soon that would raise him from $3 million per year, to $4 million and give bonus considerations to his staff that could exceed $500,000.
Freeze is 24-14 at the school and 11-13 in conference play.
The Univ. of Florida denied in a statement Monday that Freeze had been offered the coaching job there.
