Reports have stated that Mississippi State is expected to fire head baseball coach Andy Cannizaro with cause. “With cause” indicates that the firing does not have to do with on-field matters.

24/7 Sports was the first to report the firing. The university has not yet issued an official statement on the matter, but they are expected to do so later today. Cannizaro is in his second year as the head coach at MSU and succeeded John Cohen, who moved from his role as the head coach to becoming MSU’s Athletic Director. To begin the 2018 season, MSU was swept by Southern Miss over the weekend down in Hattiesburg.

Pitching coach Gary Henderson is expected to take over as the interim coach.

Despite the early season struggles in 2018, Cannizaro was able to find success in his first season in Starkville. Last season, the Bulldogs won the NCAA Regional championship in Hattiesburg and finished with a 40-27 overall record.

This story will be updated as we receive new information.
