Replacement benefits are available for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients in Mississippi who experienced a power outage for more than six hours during the storms that struck the state over the weekend.
The National Weather Service confirmed that 22 tornadoes touched down in Mississippi on Saturday, leaving two deceased, 10 injured, hundreds of structures damaged, and a swath of residents without power. In response, the Department of Human Services is urging SNAP beneficiaries impacted by the elements to apply for replacement aid.
To request a replacement of SNAP benefits, households must submit a request to their local MDHS office within 10 days of the date of the power outage. To access the replacement request form (MDHS-EA-508), beneficiaries are urged to visit the MDHS website.
A completed form may be submitted by mail, email, or uploaded online using the document upload feature. If assistance is needed, the Economic Assistance Customer Service Center can be contacted at (800)948-3050.
