The Mississippi State Legislature wasted no time during their first day back in Jackson, voting 151-8 in favor of an override of Governor Tate Reeves’ education appropriations bill veto.
It was the first time that a Mississippi governor’s veto has been overridden since 2002 when Ronnie Musgrove was in office.
This was just the latest chapter in the saga between the legislature and Reeves as just last week, the House of Representatives filed a lawsuit against the first term governor over his choice to veto the bill.
Speaker Pro Tempore Jason White, who filed the lawsuit alongside Speaker Philip Gunn, joined this morning’s episode of The Gallo Show to talk about the passage of HB 1700, where the litigation stands now, plus where the legislature goes from here.
