After his heart bypass surgery, Rep. John Moore received a special delivery from PETA, People for the Ethical treatment of Animals.
The organization sent him a care package filled with a vegan starter kit, a selection of tasty vegan goodies, and Dr. Caldwell B. Esselsyn Jr.’s book “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease.”
Attached to the gift was a letter from the organizations Executive Vice President:
Dear Mr. Moore,
I’m writing on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
(PETA) and our more than 5 million members and supporters worldwide to wish you a speedy recovery from heart bypass surgery and encourage you to “bypass ” the meat, dairy, and egg aisles on your way to better health with the enclosed vegan starter kit; a copy of “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease: The Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven, Nutrition-Based Cure” by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn Jr.; and a basket of tasty, healthy vegan foods.
Dr. Esselstyn and many other highly respected doctors, including Dr.Dean Ornish and Dr. John A. McDougall, say that the best way to reduce your cholesterol enough to be “heart-attack proof” is to eat an exclusively plant-based diet. Vegan foods have no cholesterol and lots of fiber, while meat, eggs, and dairy foods contain a lot of cholesterol and have no fiber. The Academy of Nutrition and ietetics–the nation’s largest group of nutrition professionals– concluded that vegans have lower rates of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and cancer than meat-eaters do.
In addition to harming Americans’ health, the meat industry causes enormous animal suffering. The throats of chickens and turkeys are cut while they’re still conscious, piglets aren’t given painkillers before their tails and testicles are cut off, fish are suffocated or cut open while they’re still alive on the decks of fishing boats, and calves are taken away from their mothers within hours of birth.
I sincerely hope this care package finds you well and helps you move
toward a heart-healthy, animal-friendly lifestyle.
Very truly yours,
Tracy Reiman
Executive Vice President
She added that everyone at PETA wishing Rep. Moore a speedy recovery.
