As National Police Week continues, Congressman Michael Guest (R-Miss.) and Congresswoman Julia Letlow (R-La.) have introduced a resolution honoring fallen law enforcement officers.
H.R. 1114 recognizes the 619 law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty or whose stories were otherwise recovered in 2021.
“With this resolution, I hope to let our officers know that Congress supports their efforts and joins the nation in remembering the brave heroes who gave their lives in service to their fellow Americans,” Guest said.
“Every, single day, our brave police officers put themselves in harm’s way to keep our communities safe. This is the week that a grateful nation pauses and pays tribute to those who gave given their lives in service,” Letlow said.
Both Guest and Letlow also encourage Americans to take the time this week to thank a law enforcement officer. H.R. 1114 currently has the support of 85 cosponsors.
National Police Week was officially signed into law by President John F. Kennedy in 1962
