On October 11, 2024, Renaissance at Colony Park and NexTech, a local IT and e-waste disposal service, will host an e-waste disposal event in honor of International E-Waste Day. This year’s theme, “Join the E-Waste Hunt: Retrieve, Recycle, and Revive,” invites residents and small businesses to responsibly dispose of old electronics in the Barnes & Noble parking lot adjacent to I-55.
The event will accept various electronic devices, including laptops, desktops, monitors, televisions, cell phones, printers, scanners, and cords. All collected items will be processed at NexTech’s certified facility.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of proper e-waste disposal to prevent environmental contamination, safeguard personal data, and promote a circular economy through secure and sustainable IT disposal practices. It’s designed to inform residents and businesses about effective e-waste disposal methods, especially those with limited disposal resources.
E-waste is a growing concern, making up 2% of America’s landfill waste but 70% of overall toxic waste due to hazardous materials. With individuals producing an average of 42 pounds of E-Waste annually, finding sustainable disposal solutions is crucial.
Items accepted associated disposal costs include:
- Free of charge: Desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and cell phones
- $2 each: Flat screen monitors
- $3 each: Printers, fax machines, and DVD players
- $10 each: CRT monitors
- $15 each: Televisions
Any individual or business looking to properly dispose of their e-waste can do so at Renaissance at Colony Park Shopping Center in Ridgeland this Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
