Mississippi’s largest conference on health will take place in Flowood this summer.
From June 4-6, healthcare officials and leaders in the state will gather for the 2025 Empowering Communities for a Healthy Mississippi Conference. Hosted by the Mississippi State Department of Health and Mississippi Health Disparities, the event will bring together more than 300 healthcare professionals, scientists, educators, and community stakeholders.

The main objective is to drive innovative, community-based solutions that benefit the health and well-being of all Mississippians.
“We’re dedicated to driving meaningful change in public health by equipping individuals and organizations with the resources and expertise they need to make a difference,” State Health Officer Dr. Daniel Edney said. “This conference is a hub for innovative ideas and community-driven solutions that will shape the future of healthcare in Mississippi.”
Open to the public as well as any health-related professional, the conference will feature keynote speakers, interactive presentations, and breakout sessions addressing critical issues such as:
- Chronic disease prevention and management
- Maternal and child health
- Mental health and wellness
- Healthcare access and policy development
With Mississippi continuing to rank near the cellar in overall health nationwide, the conference will serve as a platform for collaboration and action to improve health outcomes through practical, real-world solutions.
“This is more than just an event—it’s a dedicated effort to expand healthcare access, tackle critical challenges, and drive meaningful change for communities across our state,” said Dr. Jennifer L. Lemacks, University of Southern Mississippi Associate Dean for Research and Professor for the College of Nursing and Health Professions.
“By bringing together experts and community leaders, we are fostering collaboration to develop lasting solutions that target the root causes of health disparities, increase access to care, and improve the well-being of all Mississippians. Our goal is to create long-standing relationships for lasting impact.”
Attendees will hear from industry experts, explore the latest research, and participate in hands-on workshops. The goal is to energize everyone with new information to take back to their communities and professional environments. Continuing Education Units will also be available for specialized healthcare tracks, including nursing and social work.
The 2025 conference and preconference will be held at the Sheraton Refuge Conference Center. Registration is now open online.
