The American Red Cross is urging Mississippians to block out some time this August to donate blood amid a statewide shortage.
Between Aug. 1-31, anyone who donates at participating locations will receive a $20 Amazon gift card. While all blood types are needed and will be included in the promotion, Type O blood donors are especially needed as the nonprofit’s Mississippi region looks to stock the shelves through the end of August.
“The American Red Cross urges donors to give blood to reinforce the blood supply as much as possible before the summer winds down,” a news release noted. “Donors remain critically needed to support the Red Cross delivery of vital blood products, which are in demand around-the-clock as hospitals work to save lives this summer. When fewer people answer the call to donate, the blood supply can quickly shrink.”
Upcoming opportunities to donate blood through the American Red Cross include Forrest, George, Harrison, Jackson, and Stone counties. American Red Cross has offices in Gulfport, Flowood, Tupelo. More information can be found and appointments can be made here.
