For the first time since 2013, the Ole Miss basketball team finds themselves ranked in the top-25.
After taking down #11 Auburn and #14 Mississippi State in the same week, the Rebels are 13-2 (3-0 in the SEC), and they’re now ranked #18.
Just one year after they finished last in the SEC, Ole Miss has quickly turned things around under first-year head coach Kermit Davis. After last week’s win over Auburn, Davis said that the recent success can be credited to the attitude of this Rebel squad.
“They have totally bought in,” Davis said. “We coached effort, we coached attitude, and now we aren’t coaching as much effort and we are coaching zero attitude because those guys have bought in. When they do that, they are capable of doing great things.”
The question for Ole Miss now becomes, how will they handle success? This is an issue they haven’t had to deal with in years past, and with many now projecting the Rebels to return to the NCAA Tournament, they can’t get caught looking ahead.
This week, the Rebels return home to face a streaking LSU squad on Tuesday as the Tigers have won their last five games, and on Saturday, they’ll welcome Arkansas to Oxford.
For Mississippi State, they went 0-2 last week and fell from #14 to #24 in the latest AP poll.
Other ranked SEC teams include #3 Tennesee, #12 Kentucky, and #14 Auburn.
