Rape at Vanderbilt: Mississippi Man Waits for Trial, Two Others Get Second Chance

JACKSON, Miss.  – The judge has granted mistrial for Brandon Vandenburg and Cory Batey after it was revealed that a juror was a rape victim in his teens, which could have effected his interpretation of the evidence.

Adams County native JaBorian McKenzie is one of the four men accused of raping an unconscious woman in a Vanderbilt dorm room. Even though Vandenburg and Batey get a new trial, this doesn’t do anything towards McKenzie’s trial, because he hasn’t been tried or convicted yet.

McKenzie was kicked off the team at Vanderbilt shortly after the incident in 2013, then he returned to Alcorn University to play ball. He was later removed from that team roster as well.

Alcorn’s president says the University used poor judgment when they allowed him to join their football team.

McKenzie has plead not guilty and is still waiting for trial.
