A Rankin County woman is locked up after allegedly assaulting her ex-boyfriend with a knife before entering a standoff with police.
Just before 2 p.m. on Sunday, law enforcement responded to a residence in the Plantation Shores neighborhood off Highway 49 near Florence regarding a domestic disturbance. When authorities arrived at the scene, it was discovered that Shelia Boyles Finnegan, 63, had assaulted the unidentified male and then barricaded herself inside the home.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiations Team were called to the scene. According to them, there had been multiple previous incidents at this location involving the suspect, who had been known to use narcotics.
After Emergency Medical Technicians evacuated the victim, who was reported to be in stable condition, law enforcement deployed an energetic entry to breach the barricaded residence. Just before 4 p.m., deputies located and arrested Finnegan. She is charged with aggravated domestic violence.
Finnegan was assessed by medical personnel on-site due to prior drug usage, but she ultimately refused treatment and was transported to the Rankin County Detention Center.
