JACKSON, Miss.–There are certain things that you can do to try and lower your risk of becoming a theft target during this holiday season.
It’s no surprise that property crime rises in certain areas during December with Christmas shopping in full swing.
“Not everyone who drives down your street is your neighbor,” said Major Sheridan Maiden of the Oxford Police Department.
He said be careful not to display too many presents under your Christmas tree if it’s front and center in front of a window of your home.
“People carrying packages in their vehicles should utilize their trunk areas,” said Maiden. “If you don’t have a trunk try to situate them the best you can where they aren’t showing.”
He noted that during this time of the year there’s a lot more activity all over the city, and that can be any city, because of the get-togethers and other seasonal activities and that can make it easier for criminals.
