Target is one step closer to setting up shop in Tupelo.
Last week, city leaders confirmed to WTVA that the process of getting the retail giant to northeast Mississippi is nearing the finish line. Back in 2023, Target representatives made a trip to the Magnolia State to scope out a site on North Gloster Street as a possible location for a store.

In September 2024, store officials filed paperwork with the city of Tupelo for potential construction on the site that was viewed a year prior. Less than a month after the paperwork was filed, the Tupelo City Council approved a rezoning project for the site where Target is slated to be built.
Now, the site has officially been purchased. The proposed Target store is set to sit in a commercial area of town near the Mall at Barnes Crossing, along with a myriad of restaurants and retailers. Per documents, Target’s Tupelo site will be just under 150,000 square feet.
At this time, a couple of small steps remain in line for the project to come to fruition. However, officials are optimistic that local shoppers will have one of the nation’s most popular outlets in their back yard in the near future. The update comes after multiple fruitless attempts to bring Target to the All American City.
While there is no specific timeline for the possible construction of the proposed Target outlet in Tupelo, Mississippians can visit the retailer in D’Iberville, Flowood, Hattiesburg, Horn Lake, Jackson, and Olive Branch.
