JACKSON, Miss. — Thirteen private schools will not be getting the boot from the Mississippi High School Athletics Association. That proposal to kick them out was dropped before it even came to a vote Thursday. Those who were in favor of that proposal said private schools have an unfair advantage when it comes to recruiting students.
However the association did [ass a proposal to add more teams to the state basketball tournament, expanding the state tournament field to eight teams. That proposal still needs to pass a vote again in February before it becomes policy.
