President Joe Biden has officially announced that he is running for reelection.
On Tuesday, Biden took to social media to make his announcement on the exact date he tossed his hat into the ring four years ago.
The Democratic president stated that he is running once again to fight for the soul of the nation and is looking to restore and expand freedom throughout the nation. The former U.S. senator is championing that he will defend women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and voter’s rights — something he claims his Republican counterparts are actively working to dismantle.
“When I ran for president four years ago, I said that we were in a battle for the soul of America, and we still are,” Biden said. “The question is, in the years ahead, whether we have more freedom or less freedom — more rights or fewer. I know what I want the answer to be and I think you do too. This is not a time to be complacent. That’s why I’m running for reelection.”
While Biden did not mention former president Donald Trump, who is also vying for the oval office once again, by name, the commander in chief said in the video that “MAGA extremists” are lining up to take bedrock freedoms away from American citizens.
“Every generation of Americans has faced a moment when they have to defend democracy, stand up for our personal freedom, stand up for the right to vote, and our civil rights — and this is our moment,” Biden continued. “Let’s finish this job. I know we can, because this is the United States of America, and there is nothing, simply nothing we cannot do if we do it together.”
As of now, Biden and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. are the lone candidates looking to lock up the Democratic nomination heading into the 2024 election.
