Mississippi State entered the season wanting to be more efficient in the passing game while adding the element of the deep throw to its physical rushing attack. Through two games, the Bulldogs have not shown the consistency Coach Joe Moorhead has wanted out of the quarterback position. Speaking with the offensive staff on Tuesday, the overriding theme was the issues Nick Fitzgerald and Keytaon Thompson have faced so far this season are correctable. Coach Luke Getsy explained what he’s being seeing on film, and how he expects better performances as the season goes along.
We also spoke with Bulldogs quarterback coach Andrew Breiner, who echoed Getsy’s comments about Fitzgerald’s decision making being spot on, and just execution being the problem.
Speaking with Fitzgerald himself, he’s ready to move forward from last week to Saturday’s matchup with Louisiana. He says that in film study, the coaches have reinforced that the decisions he’s making in the pocket are the correct ones.
Sophomore running back Kylin Hill, the reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Week, was in good spirits talking about his performance at Kansas State. Hill said he believes the Moorhead offense can feature his talents, as well as the other playmakers in the lineup.
Mississippi State has been putting up huge numbers offensively, but has lacked some consistency so far on the young season. It seems the Bulldog coaches and players believe those issues can be corrected, and if so, an already explosive offense will become even more productive.
