Mississippi State hit the practice field on Monday for the fourteenth time this preseason, as the season opener is now less than two weeks away. I spent the portion of practice open to the media checking the offense, specifically the quarterbacks and receivers. One player that caught my eye was juco transfer Stephen Guidry, who Joe Moorhead is counting on to be a big part of the Bulldog offense.

After practice, we caught up with defensive coordinator Bob Shoop, who says that even though plenty of practice remains between today and the season opener, he feels his depth chart is pretty much set. Mississippi State is projected to have one of the nation’s top units, led by a defensive line that could have two first round picks in next year’s NFL Draft, defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and Montez Sweat.
Mississippi State will hit the practice field again Tuesday, then a final scrimmage on Wednesday before transitioning into game preparation for the opener against Stephen F. Austin.
