Postal Service unveils Mississippi anniversary stamp

JACKSON, MS — The Postal Service has announced the 200th Anniversary Mississippi Statehood stamp.

The stamps are not only neat for Mississippi folks celebrating their state, but for those who are collectors.

“2017 will be an exciting year for the Postal Service’s stamp program,” said Mary-Anne Penner, U.S. Postal Service Director, Stamp Services. “This amazing collection of stamps features beautiful art, distinguished Americans and historic events.”

Here’s a close up of what the stamp will look like:

“This stamp celebrates the 200th anniversary of Mississippi statehood. Mississippi became the 20th state on Dec. 10, 1817. The stamp features a 2009 photograph showing a close-up of a guitar player’s hands. Mississippi is the birthplace of many legendary blues artists who created a uniquely American genre of music,” said Penner. “Among states, the Magnolia State is 32nd in size, and with nearly three million people, it ranks 31st in population. Art director Greg Breeding designed the stamp with an existing photo taken by Lou Bopp. “
