Investigations are underway after possible human remains were found in two Mississippi counties on Sunday.
In Leake County, a deer hunter was trekking through the woods when they came across a body. While the identity could not be determined immediately due to decomposition, law enforcement confirmed the body was discovered on private property along Midway Road, between Highway 16 and Highway 25.
The Leake County Sheriff’s Office is treating the case as a death investigation. The remains were transported to the state crime lab and medical examiner’s office in Pearl.
A separate case in Kosciusko was reported when a resident discovered what is believed to be the skeletal remains of a human while walking behind his home on Woodland Drive. Law enforcement secured the area with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation collecting the remains Monday and transporting them to Pearl.
Officials said results for both cases could take several months.
