GULFPORT, Miss. – The federal government is accusing Phosphates Corp. of polluting and killing thousands of fish along with destroying marshy areas in Pascagoula.
Mississippi Phosphate is a fertilizer plant that has been fined repeatedly in the past for similar crimes and according to the government has done nothing to change their practices.
Phosphates filed for bankruptcy late last year and said they would most likely end fertilizer production, once they found a buyer.
The polluted water eventually flows into the Gulf of Mexico.
