Authorities in Texas are investigating accusations that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott sexually assaulted a woman while simultaneously looking into claims by the former Mississippi State quarterback that he is being extorted by the woman and her attorneys.

Dallas police are looking into claims by the woman, identified as Victoria Shores, that Prescott assaulted her in the back of an SUV in the parking lot of the XTC Cabaret strip club in February 2017. Shores did not go to authorities with her claims until Thursday, raising eyebrows from Prescott’s legal team regarding the timing by which this was presented to law enforcement.

The alleged incident came to light when Shores and her attorneys issued a letter addressed to the quarterback demanding $100 million for the mental and emotional anguish she had suffered from the sexual abuse she claims to have endured. In exchange for the compensation, Shores said she would not pursue any litigation against the Sulpher, La. native.

Separate from the investigation launched by Dallas police, authorities in Collin County, Texas confirmed to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that they are responding to claims by the former Mississippi State signal caller’s attorneys that Prescott was extorted by Shores and her lawyers. Prescott’s authorities filed a lawsuit against Shores and her attorneys on Monday accusing them of defamation, slander, and an attempt to shakedown the quarterback.

While Prescott’s legal counsel acknowledges that the football player and Shores had been in a group setting the day the alleged incident occurred, the two are reported to never have been in a relationship with one another. Prescott denies ever engaging in nonconsensual sexual acts with Shores or any woman. Shores’ attorneys argue that the extortion suit filed by Prescott is an attempt by the NFL star to make himself the victim and discredit her account of what happened seven years ago.

The quarterback is seeking an amount totaling more than $1 million and plans to donate any money he may win in the case to the Joyful Heart Foundation, a national organization known for its work with victims of assault and abuse.

Prescott is currently in contract negotiations with the Cowboys. He signed a four-year deal worth $160 million in 2021.
