Police fight back to opioid epidemic

The Jackson Police Department is currently conducting training, “Push2Breathe” along with the Jackson VA Medical Center’s Jackson Police Training Academy.

The training is being conducted by Dr. Phyllis Hollenbeck and Commander Herman Horton, Director of Police Training.

JPD was recently decided to demonstrate how a department can benefit by the issuance and carrying of opioid reversal medicine, Nalozone to patrol officers. Health Officials were able to secure about 200 auto-injection Nalozone “Evio” kits for the Jackson Police Department through Kaleo Pharmaceuticals. The Naxolone causes the temporary reversal of any opioid overdose for at least 20-30 minutes, which would allow emergency medical services to arrive on scene and provide medical attention.

Training is ongoing, although several officers have currently been trained to use the kits already.
