JACKSON, Miss. – Uber is coming to Mississippi. The company has announced plans to make the ridesharing service available to parts of the Jackson metro area.
Uber uses a smartphone application to receive ride requests and send trip requests to drivers. Customers who use the app can request rides and track their driver’s location. Drivers also have flexibility to choose when and where they receive business. All payments are done digitally thought the Uber app.
Drive and riders are able to rate each other through the app. The company also does background checks on drivers.
The company has been subject of ongoing protests from taxi companies who believe that ridesharing companies are illegal taxicab operations and compromise passenger safety.
