A Picayune man is facing more than a dozen charges after a roadway rampage in which he struck two police cars and attempted to run over a sheriff’s deputy in south Mississippi.
Clifton Stephen Michell, 38, reportedly fled the scene after deputies with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic violence call Thursday afternoon near Maddie Lane.
The escape sparked a chase lasting around 45 minutes through the Nicholson and Picayune areas, topping speeds of 90 miles per hour. After colliding with two law enforcement vehicles, and attempting to run over a deputy deploying a spike strip, the chase ended where it began on Maddie Lane.
Michell refused orders to exit his truck and resisted arrest before he was eventually “cornered and caught” as the department’s social media graphic reads.
Michell faces the following charges, according to authorities:
- Failure to stop when officer signals
- False identifying information
- No insurance
- Careless driving
- Seatbelt violation
- Disobey traffic control device
- Failure to signal
- Disorderly conduct-failure to comply
- Resisting arrest
- Obstructing traffic
- Burglary
- Robbery
- No driver’s license
- DUI
- Aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer
Michell was booked into the Lenoir-Rowell Criminal Justice Center and has not been given bond.
