A 32-year-old man from Pearl has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual battery of a child under the age of 14.
Lavarias Sherod Chaffee was sentenced by Judge Bradley Mills following his conviction Monday.
The parents of Chaffee’s victims issued a complaint to the Pearl Police Department on November 15, 2023, reporting that their child had been communicating with a male in his 30s via social media. An investigation unveiled that Chaffee had solicited sexual acts from the child after driving to the victim’s neighborhood. The victim and other juveniles also disclosed to authorities that Chaffee had requested sexual images from them.
“Online predators must be stopped,” District Attorney Bubba Bramlett said. “Our office does not tolerate children being violated by adults, and we will continue to fight to bring all child predators to justice. We appreciate the Pearl Police Department for their diligent work in protecting our children from these monster pedophiles.”
Chaffee had a multicount indictment for the sexual acts and solicitation of the inappropriate images. He will also be required to register as a sex offender upon release, serve an additional five years probation, and will be prohibited from contacting the victim or unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 18.
