JACKSON, Miss.–State Auditor Stacey Pickering received the Patriot Award Wednesday from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve at the State Capital.
Pickering, who is a Chaplain in the Mississippi Air National Guard, received the award for the second time for his support of employees who are members of the National Guard and Reserve.
“It’s a tremendous honor that for the second time now as state auditor that I’ve had an employee that serves in the National Guard, who has nominated myself and our office for the support we’ve given them,” said Pickering.
The Patriot Award can only be received after an employee nominates their employer as Pickering mentioned, and Susan Syverson an Investigator with the agency and who is in the Mississippi Air National Guard’s 255th Air Traffic Control Squadron did just that.
ESGR was created in 1972 to develop and maintain employer support for people in the Guard or Reserve.
“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, and who, like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Mississippi ESGR State Chair Jack Wallace. “Stacey Pickering was nominated for being highly supportive of the National Guard by his Reserve Component employee.”
Governor Phil Bryant was on hand Wednesday to congratulate Pickering for the award.
