Bienville Orthopedic Specialists is facing multiple lawsuits following a cyberattack the medical provider experienced earlier this year.

The Biloxi-based company confirmed they experienced a hack to some computer systems between February 3 and March 5, leading to names, social security numbers, financial account information, health insurance information, and username andpassword access being leaked.

Though the medical group knew about the breach earlier in the year, impacted patients were not notified that their personal information had been compromised until September 1. An estimated 240,000 had sensitive information leaked due to the hack.

Lack of prior awareness has resulted in multiple lawsuits being filed by patients against Bienville Orthopedic Specialists.

One of the suits was filed on behalf of a single patient who alleged that the healthcare company failed to implement the necessary cybersecurity measures to protect the privacy of its patients, which has led to the individual receiving an influx of spam calls and emails due to their identity being compromised.

A class action suit has also been filed by those affected by the breach who echo similar sentiments as the individual suing the company.
