Update: More remains, including a skull, have been recovered from the Flowood pond.
According to WLBT, a group of minors were fishing in a restricted area at the old Primos Lake — the site where the city mine was located — when one spotted a human leg with a sock on it. The juveniles immediately contacted law enforcement after making the discovery.
Authorities are investigating after partial human remains were found in a Flowood pond.
Flowood Police received a call from fishermen who located possible human remains in a pond near 4200 Mangum Road on Sunday around 7:15 p.m. Officers arrived and confirmed that what was spotted was, in fact, part of a human body.
The Rankin County Coroner took possession of the partial remains. Flowood Police and Rankin County Emergency Operation Center officials will search the pond for further remains on Monday morning.
This is the third time in a month that fishermen in Mississippi have found human remains. Missing Jackson man Dau Mabil was discovered nearly 60 miles away from the capital city in Lawrence County on April 13. Mabil’s body was also spotted along the Pearl River. A cause of death for Mabil has yet to be determined as law enforcement continue to assess his sudden disappearance.
Additionally, 42-year-old Jay Lee Barber, who had been reported missing since April 5, was discovered in the Pearl River near South State Street and Gallatin Street on April 20. A fisherman told Jackson police that he noticed the body floating near the stack, which is located at the Interstate 20 and Highway 49 exit.
