Palmer Home for Children is celebrating 130 years of helping families.
Founded in Columbus in 1895, the nonprofit boasts of providing stability, care, and hope to children and families in need. To commemorate this milestone, Palmer Home for Children is launching a year-long campaign, 130 Years of Hope, to honor the organization’s legacy and inspire continued support.
“At the core, the need for our mission is just as true today as it was 130 years ago … We carry the same card and that is: We want to serve and help children in need,” Palmer Home for Children President and CEO Drake Bassett said as he explained the organization’s success.
“It’s that passion. When I see the staff, even new staffers who have joined us recently, they have that energy and passion to make a difference in the lives of families who need it. If I were to point to one thing, it’s that continuing commitment that has pushed us.”
Palmer Home for Children is a privately funded, faith-based organization that provides campus care, foster care, family care, and transitional care to meet the specific needs of each child and family. The Whole Child Initiative, Palmer Home’s approach to care, emphasizes child development by focusing on five components: physical development, emotional healing, educational support, social health, and spiritual growth.
Designated as SuperTalk Mississippi’s charity of choice in 2013, Palmer Home has benefited significantly from the company’s annual Radiothon, raising more than $2.7 million to date. Last year’s Radiothon raised more than $300,000 to support the good work being done in the Golden Triangle.
