Special agents with the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor (OSA) have arrested two Panola County employees based on allegations of their misuse of county resources.
State Auditor Shad White announced Monday that agents arrested Carvelle Russell, a former Panola County Road Department employee, and Anthony Davis, a former Panola County Solid Waste (PCSW) employee, for allegedly using county fuel cards for their personal vehicles.
According to a press release from the office, Russell allegedly took a fuel card assigned to a Panola County Road Department vehicle between June 2024 and September 2024 and used it to purchase gas for his personal vehicle. Davis stands accused of the same crime, using a county fuel card assigned to a PCSW vehicle to fuel his personal vehicle between July 2024 and September 2024.
“The dedicated team at the State Auditor’s Office will continue to work closely with prosecutors to get record results for taxpayers,” White said.
Russell and Davis both face up to $5,000 in fines and 10 years if convicted. The office encouraged those who suspect fraud to report the incidents by clicking the red button on the OSA website or by calling 1(800)321-1275.
