Oxford Film Festival starts Wednesday

The Oxford Film Festival starts this week and will feature more that 130 films from all over the globe.

Starting Wednesday and running through Sunday, residents, participants and visitors will be able to watch independent films as well as meet the filmmakers.

Since its inception in 2003 the festival has provided movie buffs with both short and feature-length films in showcase and competition settings. It also hosts panel discussions.

The film categories this year include:

Animated short
Documentary feature and short
Experimental short
Mississippi narrative and documentary
Mississippi Music Video
LGBTQ
Music Documentary
New Media including Virtual Reality
Narrative feature and short

“There will be 12 panels, actor Danny Glover will be there on Friday and we’ll also have the Oscar nominated film I Am Not Your Negro,” said Melanie Addington, Executive Director of the Oxford Film Festival.

According to a statement released by the Oxford Film Festival, Glover will be there Friday to speak about the film I Am Not Your Negro, as well as discuss voter and worker rights in Mississippi.

Glover will be joining former presidential contender, Sen. Bernie Sanders for the March 4th “March on Mississippi,” in Canton.
