OXFORD, Miss. – The Oxford Film Festival has been awarded a $4,500 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC).
“We use it to pay for the fees associated with our venue and with the services we have to hire out – like someone to run the movies for the weekend, or things we can’t do with just volunteers,” explained Michelle Emanuel, director of operations. “The festival really could not happen without them (MAC).”
The grant is a portion of the $1.34 million in grants the MAC will award in 2014 and 2015 to support the independent film festival.
“The creative economy has never been more vibrant than it is today in the communities across Mississippi,” said MAC Executive Director Tom Pearson, in a written statement. “This agency is honored to play a small role in assisting these organizations to continue their work reinforcing the value of the arts and the role they play in creative place-making and economic development.”
The next Oxford Film Festival in Oxford, Miss will be February 26 – March 1, 2015.
