The Mississippi Department of Health is reporting 781 new cases of COVID-19. The total number of cases reported this year now stands at 84, 365.
With the confirmation of 33 additional deaths, 2,526 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus. 12 of the deaths reported today were identified from death certificates and occurred between August 10 and August 27.
The highest number of cases, over 18,000, are in the 18 to 29 age group.
Today’s cases included 16 among residents in long-term care facilities and four resident deaths. There are now 158 active outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities.
