JACKSON, Miss.- Oregon lawmakers have taken down the Mississippi flag at the state’s capitol.
At the Oregon state capitol you will see the Capitol’s Walk of Flags that features the state colors of all 50 states along with 9 federally recognized Native American Tribes.
They are now only flying 49 flags after removing the Mississippi flag. Leaders in the House and Senate say that they do not agree with the confederate emblem that is still on the flag therefore they have decided to remove it until it is changed.
Oregon did send Mississippi legislators a letter explaining their decision and why they “respectfully choose not to fly the flag.” They went on to say that they hope lawmakers in our state will make changes to the flag and they look forward to flying a new one soon.
